Over the Whitsun weekend in 2019, around 500 people gathered in the Liederhalle in Stuttgart to celebrate the 54th annual meeting of Amnesty International Deutschland e.V. Amnesty members met over a period three days to decide on certain proposals, for example on climate protection, and, on a rotational basis, elected a new board. The focus of the talks and discussions was protection of human rights activists.
The annual meeting expressed solidarity with human rights proponents and called on governments worldwide to support human rights work and protect activists. In the centre of Stuttgart, members laid flowers for human rights activists who had been killed. They were accompanied by guests from all over the world, including the former international Secretary General of Amnesty International, Kumi Naidoo.
